Easy-peasy beehive!

I've never really been a 60s girl, the iconic mini skirts and shift dresses are not so kind to hips like mine!
Last weekend though I had a 1960s themed birthday party to attend and I decided I had to have a beehive. So began the battle with my hair...

I researched as much as I could before hand and determined that I needed to start off with day old hair so I dutifully wore my blue geisha shower cap to keep it dry for styling.
And then... I backcombed the hell out of my naturally curly hair, and it was a disaster.
No amount of brushing, backcombing, hairspray or pleading could make it go where it didn't want to.

With half an hour to go before I needed to leave I finally decided to give up, so back in the shower I jumped to wash out all the product and back-combed produced knots. I then did a super quick chignon wit the top pushed up for some height and applied my makeup in the car. Not an ideal start to a night out...

Last night when I was browsing through youtube watching hair and beauty tutorials I can across one that promised easy beehives with no back-combing. I pushed through the remembered horror of last Friday night and decided to watch it, and I was amazed! (here is a link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywLpGV4JYU8)

This afternoon I couldn't wait any longer and decided to give it a go.
Here my results, this took about 5 minutes max with no hair products or backcombing!!

The red streaks give it a bit of a Bride of Frankenstein feel, but I kinda like that. :P

Needless to say, I no longer fear the 1960s quite so much. :)

Spring Cleaning

Even though it's not Spring I thought it was time to do a big clean out and make some room in my wardrobe. While I'm in the mood for fresh beginnings I also thought I would start a blog, so welcome to my very first post! :)

I went op-shopping with the lovely Cailin on Saturday and while I found two amazing pieces (pictures to come) my haul was nowhere near as impressive as hers. She attributes this to 'op-shop karma' from making regular donations, I already have two full garbage bags of clothes and I'm only half way through so I think I'm about to come in to some excellent karma myself!
